Mercedes-Benz A-Class: “A comfortable car with a sporty look”

Posted on
Meet one of our new lease cars: the Mercedes A-Class 180D. Mercedes has given its new A-Class a fresh design, modern user interface and updated engine. Our man on the ground, Mourad Akdad, tested the car for you.

It’s yours for a cool 30,000 euros: the new Mercedes A-Class, a versatile city car with a capacity of 85 kilowatts and a theoretical fuel consumption of 4.1 litres per 100 kilometres. Mourad Akdad had the chance to try it out. “I’ve been a Mercedes fan since I was a kid”, he told us. “It’s a popular brand in my family: my father had one and my brother drives a Mercedes too. So I was pleased that I got to test the new A-Class.”

Widescreen dashboard

First impressions matter, so we asked Mourad what he thought of the car when he first got into it.
“The car I tested had the AMG-line finish that gives the car a sporty look,” Mourad Akdad replied. “The brand-new digital widescreen dashboard is something you’d expect to see in large, luxury cars, but it adds that bit extra to this A-Class. What is more, the on-board computer is really user friendly. I particularly liked the smart speech assistant that meant I could use the computer easily.”

Mourad had the opportunity to drive the Mercedes all weekend. How did he feel on the road?
“I love sporty cars,” Mourad said, “but the general driving experience can be disappointing. That wasn’t the case with this Mercedes. Because you can easily adjust the seat, you get off to a comfortable start. There is plenty of space and you feel completely at ease.”
“Although the automatic gearbox doesn’t always shift smoothly between first gear and reverse, it is pleasant to drive in all settings. The car glides smoothly over the road, it is very stable and it feels safe. In short: I’ll remember this pleasant driving experience for a long time to come.”

Young consultants

What type of driver does Mourad Akdad see driving this car? “The Mercedes-Benz A-Class 180D is a great alternative to the Audi A3, BMW 1 or Volkswagen Golf. The car mainly attracts a younger audience, so I think it will be particularly successful in our ‘My First Company Car’ customer segment. The boot is on the small side, so it’s not ideal for families with young children. Starters who spend a lot of time on the road, consultants at the beginning of their career and drivers with no children will get a lot of pleasure out of this car, though”, Mourad Akdad believes.
