Daimler Financial Services finalises acquisition of Athlon Car Lease International

• Approved by regulatory authorities • Daimler invests € 1,1 billion into multi-brand fleet management in Europe • Fleet management will be combined under the brand “Athlon” • Gero Goetzenberger is appointed Managing Director, Frans Janssen is appointed Chief Commercial Officer

Daimler Financial Services and De Lage Landen International Group, belonging to Dutch Rabobank, now sealed the purchase of mobility provider Athlon after receiving approval of the regulatory authorities. For € 1,1 billion, Daimler’s financial division takes over Athlon Car Lease International, a leading provider of mobility solutions for companies in Europe. As of today, Daimler Financial Services will cover the needs of business mobility with Daimler Fleet Management and Athlon Car Lease International as a multi-brand provider. In the long run, Daimler Financial Services will lead its fleet management business unter the name “Athlon”. Gero Goetzenberger is the new CEO of Athlon. Since 2012, Goetzenberger is Managing Director of Daimler Fleet Management. As of now, Frans Janssen is Chief Commercial Officer. Janssen was CEO of Athlon beforehand. Headquarters of the company, which will operate under the brand “Athlon” is located in Almere/Netherlands.
“The importance of business mobility continues to grow. We strengthen our competitive position substantially with the acquisition of Athlon. Both companies, Athlon and Daimler Fleet Management, bring along a long tradition,” states Bodo Uebber, Board of Management member of Daimler AG responsible for Finance and Controlling and Financial Services.
“With a portfolio of, in sum, more than 350.000 vehicles we will be an important player in the European fleet business. We are going to enhance the mobility solutions for companies with Athlon,” states Klaus Entenmann, Chairman of Daimler Financial Services AG. The completion of the integration in all European markets will presumably be completed in 2018. Customers will benefit from an extended offer and optimized processes.

“We now hand over our vehicle leasing business to a company that possesses all prerequisites to continue Athlon’s track record of success,” stated Bill Stephenson, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of De Lage Landen International, the former holding company of Athlon Car Lease International.

The company, that operates under the brand “Athlon”, is present in fourteen European countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Furthermore, Athlon cooperates with partners in more markets.
