Athlon was founded in 1916, as a local car repair operating under the name: RIVA: Reparatie-Inrichting voor Automobielen (Repair Company for Automobiles). What started with a fascination for automobiles has grown into an international, customer centric mobility specialist, offering innovative concepts as well as traditional mobility solutions.

2003 - In Europe, all lease companies that are part of Athlon adopt the name Athlon Car Lease
2005 - Takeover of Unilease BV
2006 - Intergration of Athlon Car Lease with De Lage Landen (DLL) International
2007 - Founding of Athlon Poland
2008 - Establishment of Athlon Portugal
2009 - Acquisition of Masterlease Italy, and merger into Athlon Car Lease
2010 - Athlon Car Lease integrates Prisma Car Lease
2013 - Integration of SAC in Sweden into Athlon
2014 - Athlon Car Lease becomes Athlon
2015 - Founding of Athlon Switserland
2016 - Athlon celebrates its 100th birthday
2016 - Athlon is acquired by Daimler AG
