    Roads

The below is a list of some of the major toll roads, bridges, and tunnels in the UK that require payment either online or via automatic number plate recognition systems.

To avoid costly penalties and fines for missed payments, we recommend that all vehicles are set up for auto-payment if you regularly use roads that carry a toll or charge.

    The Dartford Crossing

From 1 September 2025, an increase in charges for car drivers will be implemented for the Dartford Crossing. It is important that individual drivers are aware of the changes and are encouraged to sign up for pre-payment and direct debits (where applicable) in order to reduce costs and avoid penalties.
If a Dartford Crossing payment is not made within 48 hours of travel, drivers will be issued a £70 fine. The Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) is reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days, however will raise to £105 if not paid within 28 days. This is in addition to the original crossing charge.
Journeys made between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00 will continue to be free, as will those made by motorcycles at any time and the bicycle pick-up service.

The Silvertown Tunnel (and the Blackwall Tunnel)

The new Silvertown Tunnel which opened links Silvertown in east London to the Greenwich Peninsula. The tunnel which only opened in April 2025 aims to reduce congestion in and around the Blackwall Tunnel, helping make peak time journeys more enjoyable (and faster!).
Both the Blackwall and new Silvertown tunnel requires drivers to pay to use the crossings (unless exempt), and charges apply for every crossing, in both directions during the set hours and is only available to customers registered with Auto Pay.
