Sustainability & CSR Impact Report 2022

On World Environment Day we launched our latest Sustainability & CSR Impact Report covering our achievements and milestones of the year 2022 and shedding a light on our plans towards what we call ‘speeding up the mobility movement’ in our industry. We do this by actively focusing on five impact areas: climate action, road safety, community involvement, vital people and diversity, equity & inclusion.

    Speeding up the mobility movement

Sustainability is a topic where actions speak louder than words. By offering our customers the tools to improve their mobility behaviour, we accelerate the transition towards smarter and more conscientious travel choices.
Our 2022 Sustainability & CSR Report showcases our progress and the milestones we’ve reached, as well as our goals for the future. In this report, we're proud to highlight our efforts regarding the/our five impact areas.

    Electric Driving and Climate Impact

One of our key goals is to accelerate the adoption of electric driving , which we believe is critical to reducing our carbon footprint. In the past year, we've made significant strides towards this goal. We've increased the number of electric vehicles in our fleet by guiding our customers and employees to electric driving. As a result, in 2022 18,5% of our customer fleet was xEV and almost 53% of our employee fleet.

We have set ourselves clear goals for 2025:

    • 50% of the Athlon customer fleet is BEV or PHEV(xEV)
    • 100% of the employee fleet is entirely BEV or PHEV(xEV)
    • the average CO2 tailpipe emissions in our customer fleet are 50 g/km
    • the average CO2 tailpipe emissions in our employee fleet are 0 g/km

    Rethinking mobility

We're committed to playing an active role in the transition to sustainable mobility. We work with experienced partners to expand our services and increase access to affordable, flexible and sustainable mobility. In the coming year we're planning to expand our product portfolio, making it easier for our customers to rethink their mobility and make sustainable transportation options part of their fleet & mobility policy.

    Giving Back to Society

We believe that it's important to give back to the communities we serve. That's why we've launched several community engagement initiatives over the past year. These initiatives have included volunteer work, donations to local charities and partnerships with community organizations. We're proud to have made a positive impact and we're committed to continuing our efforts to give back.
By 2025, we would like all Athlon employees to actively participate in a volunteering programme. We also encourage all our employees to do volunteer work for 2 working days per year . At least half of those volunteer days will be devoted to equal opportunities.

Making Road Safety a Key Action

We take road safety seriously. That's why we've implemented new safety measures and training programs to promote safe driving practices among our employees and customers. In order to make our commitment more specific, we developed the Athlon RoadSafety proposition in 2022. We decided to partner with highly innovative European service providers to give our customers access to a variety of Road Safety solutions.

It is our ambition to reduce the number of road accidents caused by Athlon vehicles to zero. More specifically, we aim to reduce the number of accidents that result in physical injury to the driver or a third party. By 2025, we will reduce the number of accidents caused by Athlon vehicles by 25% compared to 2022. By 2030, we aim for a 50% reduction. Beyond that, we embrace the Vision Zero ambition of the EU, meaning 100% reduction in 2050.

    Employee vitality

We believe that our employees are our most valuable asset. That's why we've implemented several initiatives to promote employee health and wellbeing. These initiatives include mental health programs, flexible working arrangements and employee wellness programs. We're committed to continuing our efforts to create a healthy and supportive work environment.

Athlon strives for an annual increase in employee satisfaction. In 2022 we reached an average score of 3.6 out of 5 in our annual Athlon Pulse Check survey (our score in 2021 was 3.4). By 2025, we aim to achieve an average score of 4.5 out of 5. We also aim for 90% of our employees saying that Athlon contributes to their vitality.

    Fostering Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We believe that a diverse and inclusive workplace is essential for our success. That's why we've taken steps to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all employees. As a company, Athlon aims to reflect society; we want to make a diverse range of talented people feel welcome and at home, regardless of their worldviews. Differences between people are viewed as opportunities for growth and development, both for our individual employees and for our company.
We're committed to continuing our efforts to foster diversity, equity and inclusion on the work floor. We ensure that all Athlon teams reflect the local communities of the countries in which they work. By 2025, we will have set up at least 5 thematic networks on diversity and inclusion, which will focus on exchanging knowledge and inspiration.

    Better together

In conclusion, we're proud of the progress we've made over the past year. We will continue to take action in creating a world where mobility becomes more ecological, efficient, accessible and flexible. And we will do this together with our team, customers and partner. Because in In Sustainability & CSR collaboration is key!

Or like Alexander Heijkamp, Athlon's Sustainability & CSR Director says it: "When it comes to Sustainability & CSR, everything starts with setting clear goals. What do you want to achieve, and – more importantly – why do you want to achieve it? Overcoming your limiting beliefs is the key to start having a positive impact."
